Can my love for bimmer's be similar to the idolatry that God warns us against?
For real though, I like me's a bimmer! Why can't a brotha become successful and have a nice car? i don't want a Porsche or a jag, simply a 3-series till I've graduated to a 7.
I feel as though it doesn't force to act irrationally or cause me to indulge in unnecessary spending. Because, come on yall, do yall really think I'd get one if I couldn't afford it? I'm frugal's father. But I am interested to know from a Christ-like perspective what are the general feelings about materialism/consumerism and God.
Paul says greed, lust, and evil desires are idolatry in his "Rules for Holy Living" found in the book of Colossians 3:5.
Read that chapter, or even the book for that matter it's short before answering....Am I tryna stunt too early? What if its within my means (sorta)?

You can get nice things but if you ain't willing to put the money that you put in nice things into other people for good, then thats where you get into the whole "its easier for a camel to walk through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven". Remember there's almost no such thing as sacrificing too much for God, thats what makes it hard for many people because we're not willing to sacrifice too much.
Sim simma who got di keys to mine?..i think its alright to like a nice car just don't get obsessed with the idea of getting one or get to the point where your love for it replaces your love for Dad. Read recently in James 1:15 that when desire conceives it gives birth to sin, and when sin grows up it brings death....soooo.....just don't get desire pregnant, feel me.

OH AND ONE CAVEAT: You might already know but man i highly under budgeted my insurance cost and that kinda screwed me when i bought my car

I like the James 1 reference. It's very true. Although I was slightly over exaggerating with the obsession/idolatry...I do think sometimes our desire for materialism can conceive sin like you mentioned. As for me, my bimmer dreams are plateaued now anyway I'm working on homeownership, but thanks!
